What is Swedish Massage?

 aka - Classical Massage

This style of massage uses a combination of massage techniques catered to the needs of the client, whether it be a massage to help you relax or ease the stress on your body from physical work or exercise.

Deep tissue
This technique pushes into the muscles to release tension. Many people love deep tissue especially those who do manual work or spend a lot of time at the gym.

Light therapeutic massage.
The lightest tough can penetrate the deepest”. This is a common understanding in the massage world. And, so a lighter massage can also be very effective to release tension in the body.

What massage can do for you

There are such HUGE benefits to having regular massage.

Dr Jo (right) gets a massage every two weeks for themselves, and knows how important it is for the body, especially for those who experience chronic pain, or for those who use their bodies a lot; keeping fit or manual work.

Incredible after-effects of massage can include the following;

  • Sleeping better! So many clients have a great night's sleep after massage, especially therapeutic massage.
  • Reduced Pain & Discomfort. A lot of us have discomfort and low-level pain that we end up ignoring. This can be eased with massage and sometimes even removed.
  • Better mobility. Stiffness in the body is a natural phenomemon. Massage can increase circulation and help those muscles get going again.
  • Improved Mental Health. A body that is feeling better can lead to mental vitality simply because we can do more of what we love.
  • Stress Relief. If you are chronically stressed-out, a massage can give you a regular space in which to compeltely relax and help you to let go of stress.

Every massage works with the nervous system to help the ENTIRE body relax, the knock-on effect is that it is 'good' for our whole system; body, mind, and spirit.

"I truly believe that life is better with massage as it helps us to live in our bodies and relax.
In this modern world, massage is an essential part of living."

What Happens in a Massage Session?

Every new client is sent an online health questionnaire before their FIRST appointment.
...so that I know if it is  safe to massage.

The session will always start with a little catch-up to ask how things went for you after the last session and what can be done for you in the current session. [Notes are typed on a computer in every session - GDPR protected].

The massage begins with a grounding technique over the towel (hands lightly grip the legs and arms) and then a simple breathing technique.
A sound bowl is tapped and
soothing music plays in the background.

The massage ends with the sound bowl and a brief chat to see how things went.

NOTE: The client undresses and dresses in privacy alone in the room.
Professional standards of physical privacy are maintained thoughout every session.

HOW TO BOOK

You can book by getting in touch directly via email or phone or, use the ONLINE CLIENT PORTAL to see my availability and even book there.

I'm creating a business in which my clients have a say in how they want their sessions to go. Not everyone remembers or is confident about speaking face-to-face so I want to give the opportunity for everyone to be able to give feedback if they want to, but it's totally up to the individual.

How my booking system is set up

I use Zandahealth to manage all my clients information (GDPR UK certified), through which I can make bookings, take online payments (via Stripe) through the Client Portal, take session notes, and automate reminders and follow-up messages via SMS and Email.

Automated
SMS reminders

A Message is sent to your phone 24 hours before the appointment so you'll never forget!

Cancellation policy is 24 hours notice. Life happens, so if there's an emergency we can just move the appointment, I've very reasonable on it and it's just a prt of life - no stress. *non-emergencies or missed appointments (less 24hrs notice) will pay full fee.

Say what you'd like beforehand

The reminder SMS will have a link to a very short form in which you can say what you'd like addressing in your up-coming session.

If you're feeling your need some peace and quiet, there's also an option to ask for minimal talk.

Post massage feedback via text

One to two days after the appointment an email will be sent asking for any feedback on the last session.

This means that you can have a little time to come back to Earth before letting me know if there's anything you forgot to mention.

Your own portal & Booking

Every massage client is in the Zandahealth software (GDPR protected), which is where I keep all the session notes, forms, and information you give me

You have access to the Zandahealth Client Portal, through which my availablility can be viewed and appointments made.

Rescheduling is a little tricky so always get intouch to do this please.

FAQs

Here are some frequently asked questions. If you have another then please do get in touch via email or use the form below.

How much is a massage?  At the moment (June 2025) it's £40 an hour, but if you only want 30 minutes then it'll be £30 for the session.
I try and make things affordable by giving the option for folx to bring their own towel - if you DO NOT bring your own large towel then it's £5 to use one of mine.

What kind of towel should I bring? A large bath towel - please make sure it's clean. I don't care if it's got historical use of hair dye on it as long as it covers you and is clean.

What does a 'full body' massage include? Back, shoulders, upper arms, legs and neck (and pecs on men). And, I may also include the glutes (bum cheeks) if they are tight, and forearms, hands, and feet, but only if there is enough time - opt for a longer session if you want.

Do you do back massage or half body, or full body? I massage clients by the time they need, which is usually an hour. So if you have a back as well as shoulder issues then I may advise that we have a longer session to accommodate. Or, if you are, for example, a large client who does body-building, we will need a longer session, perhaps 90 minutes to 2 hours, to cover more areas of the body that need extra attention. Many people who are over 6-foot tall need 90 minutes for a full-body; back, shoulders, arms, legs and neck.

Cancellations. I have a 24-hours notice policy for cancelations, but I do understand that life gets in the way, and it's nothing that can be helped so do let me know if you can't make it and I can re-arrange the appointment for you. If you just don't turn up or cancel cuz you've changed your mind (under 24-hours to go) then I will want to be paid in full.

I forgot my towel. If you forget your towel then I have plenty to spare and it'll be £5 extra.

How can I pay? I accept Bank Transfer, Cash, and I have a card machine too, so I got you covered!

Do I do 'Happy Endings'? This is an easy and short answer; No. While I appreciate this happens and there's no shame in it, I do not provide these extras, so please avoid embarassment and do not ask me.
