Massage Safety

It's important to me that, while I give you the massage  you want and need,  I do not exacerbate and avoid upsetting any pre-existing or known conditions.

Below are some guidleines I use to help me decide who  I can massage.

If you are unsure about your own situation, you can call your GP to check

I can NOT massage you...

{if you are unsure please get in touch}

  • If you are pregnant (I haven't done that course yet).
  • If you are waiting for a consultant diagnosis (don't know what I'm working with).
  • If you have broken a bone, that I'll need to massage over, within the last 3-6 months, depending on age.
  • Advanced Osteoporosis: Brittle bones may break under some pressure!
  • Undergoing cancer treatment (it could affect the levels of drugs in your system)
However, post cancer / 'survivors' of cancer who are being monitored. just check with your consultant or GP.

Contraindications

How massage could affect you.

  • MEDICATIONS can be affected by massage, especially ANTIDEPRESSANTS, increasing or decreasing levels in your system.
  • Diabetics; your levels of insulin and sugar will be affected by the massage so please always carry your medication or sugar source with you.
  • Having massage can sometimes make you urinate more [~24hrs].
  • Massage can also bring on headaches directly afterwards or the following day so just take your regular medication and drink water.
  • Muscle soreness, sometimes people feel a bit sore after a massage and this should ease off after a day or so.

Informed Consent - Massage

To be able to give massage safely for my client as well as myself, I ask every client to fill out a medical questionnaire before their first massage - emailed to you.

I also expect current clients to tell me if they have had any injury or  changes in their health as some changes  may affect the safety of the massage.

- Jo Scoble

At the first massage, I ask every client to sign the 'Informed Consent' document  (pictured below).
