Business Ethos & Philosophy

A safe space for you and me

Below is an outline of the working principles and ethics around my business.

This model is here so that you can know more about me and what political and spiritual lens I am looking through.
This is so you can make an informed decision about working with me, which I think is important for any marginalised person or groups when doing spiritual-based healing practices.

Please understand that these are not a static set of ideals, but a working model that I will revisit and challenge myself on.  This is epscially true as I learn and understand how better to run an inclusive and safe business for me and my clients through continued reading, research, and lived experience.

My Spiritual Foundations & Moral Compass

Spiritual Foundations

  • I do not belong to any organised religious groups (below is my experience).

My story with organised religion is being a former member of the Church of England. My mother took me to the local village church as a young child and I was confirmed at the age 13. I liked singing in the choir. I did not continue going once I reached secondary school. At a time of personal distress,  in my twenties, I joined my University Church for a little while. And again in my early forties, while recovering from a mental and physical breakdown, I joined my mother (again) to go to another ancient local church building. This last time, I even considered becoming a vicar but eventually decided that it wasn’t for me as I wanted so much MORE in spirituality than what I was shown.

I read a lot of books by Richard Rohr, which challenged the thinking of traditional Christian living and practice, and studied the ‘Franciscan Way’ (the type of priest Rohr is), and said hello to the works of Julian of Norwich, “All will be well…”. Then I found a fantastic online community of ‘deconstructing’ Christians, in the Nomad Podcast, run by Tim Nash & friends, through whom I connected with and helped curate the online space for conversations around recovery from harmful experiences within The Church. The podcast was, and still is, a space in which people can touch-base with those whom have been negatively impacted by organised Christianity, and who may still even hold faith and who want to understand more about other religions, racism in the church, conflict & war [within a religious context], disability, toxic masculinity… all the while Tim & Nick (one of the co-hosts) have funny interactions about being vulnerable and middle-aged men. The Nomad Podcast has evolved a lot over the years, and Tim makes space to grow with the times. I loved being an active part of this online community and support team during lockdown [Covid19].

  • I am a Witch.
What I mean by this is that I follow a Wiccan Wheel of seasons of the year (but am not Wiccan).
I follow the phases of the moon and practice ritual work around it, including personal affirmations along with EFT (tapping on the body).
I have many altars around my home through which I work and performs spells.

My spiritual teachers have been extremely various but the most notable of whom I shall mention on another page - click below

My spiritual beliefs

To keep it simple; I am NOT ‘love and light’ kind of spiritual. I love navigating the shadow-self as this is where the good stuff lies! You cannot live life without acknowledging and spending time with the pain. That is spiritual by-passing.

The hardest thing about being in this ‘wellness’  field is dodging by-passing and appropriation folx. These people ignore historical harms or who, when challenged, just keep their eyes and ears shut; Palo Santo and White Sage are a perfect example (I do not use these methods of spiritual cleansing) because they were used to harm the indigenous peoples of North America and is a closed practice; see this blog for more information on a white person’s decision not to use these plant allies again click here.

it is a constant challenge that we must try to live together - TOGETHER… connected through a network (many like to use the word ‘mycelium’, which is a good analogy if you understand what it means, and as an environmental biologist I do - I encourage you to look it up). And, because we’re a network, to cause harm is to do so to ourselves. So, we must try to pull each other through as much as we can but this does not mean:

  • Putting ourselves in harms way
  • Being a saviour and acting like a martyr
  • Ignoring the harm we may have done, be doing to ourselves, or to others

Some people cannot be helped and do not want to be helped, so this idea of the mycelium network (to me), is also to help us all navigate feelings of loneliness that the capitalist mentality has put upon us - we are not reduced to a customer or a number but part of the whole, and we work with what we can in that ‘whole’, when we can, and when we are able.

My spiritual perspective

My perspective is that we are all capable of anything any one else can do, it’s just some of us are more keen on learning certain skills than others. For instance, I have a close friend who can actually see the dead, but she has no inclination to work with the dead at all and so, if you don’t want to then you don’t have to. I can’t see the dead but sense them and am not ready to work with them… yet (maybe never).

I believe we all have spirit guides around us, which are human manifestations (people, animals…) of intermixed energy. It is through these guides and ‘third eye worlds that I have created in my mind’, in which I meet my guides. This is where I access information for my clients; I connect with a client’s guides through mine. I then use various tools like cards (tarot and wisdom decks) to communicate messages from my guides, Runes, Pendulum, and signs from the environment around me as well as physical or emotional feelings within my body (clairsentience).

The energy work that I do with crystals is similar, I still rely on my guides to help me and nudge me and teach me, but the crystals are also there too. I use the crystals to channel, focus, and move energy around, all the while protecting my energy from my clients. Protection of energy is important in all aspects of my work, from massage, tarot, and crystal therapy.
